Description

Mentoring women in our Recovery Services Program focuses on practical life skills, financial literacy, job readiness, and emotional support, covering budgeting, resume writing, healthy relationships, cooking, self-advocacy, goal-setting, and accessing resources, all delivered with trauma-informed care, compassion, and empowerment to build confidence for self-sufficiency.

Practical Life Skills

  • Daily Living: Cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, household management, and maintaining a healthy living space.
  • Health & Wellness: Basic nutrition, managing chronic conditions, mental health awareness, and substance abuse resources.
  • Healthy Relationships: Setting boundaries, communication, and understanding healthy vs. unhealthy dynamics, especially for survivors of domestic violence. 

Financial & Career Skills

  • Financial Literacy: Budgeting, money management, understanding credit, and saving.
  • Job Readiness: Resume writing, interview skills, job searching, and workplace etiquette.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy, email, and online job applications. 

Empowerment & Self-Sufficiency

  • Goal Setting: Working one-on-one to set and achieve short-term and long-term goals.
  • Self-Advocacy: Learning to articulate needs, navigate systems, and speak up for themselves.
  • Resource Navigation: Connecting with community resources, legal aid, childcare, and housing assistance.
  • Confidence Building: Encouraging self-esteem through skill development and sharing personal stories. 

Core Mentoring Qualities (How to Mentor)

  • Trauma-Informed Care: Understanding the impact of trauma and providing support with compassion, patience, and positive communication.
  • Active Listening: Helping individuals feel heard and valued.
  • Empowerment: Guiding women to find their own solutions and build self-reliance.
  • Reliability & Consistency: Being dependable for appointments and communication to build trust.
