If you are needing to fulfill your court order community serve hours, we offer the opportunity to work in our kitchen. You will help prep and serve meals for our Adult Shelter guests, Family Shelter clients, and Recovery Services clients. Regularly scheduled meals provide a sense of security, essential nutrients, and an offer of friendship to our homeless neighbors. Meals are how we show our community that we care for their needs while offering an opportunity to enter a program that could provide inner healing and lasting solutions.

Prepping and serving breakfast doesn't require prior kitchen skills, and any necessary training is provided.

As you pull up to the gate at the South entrance, push the intercom button on the call box to get ahold of a staff member. If you need help getting ahold of a staff member, call the Adult Shelter on-call phone number (509-853-4343) posted near the intercom. After the gate opens, you can pull through, park, and walk back through the pedestrian gate to get to the back kitchen entrance and use the kitchen doorbell (do not use the call box). After your shift, please exit through the double doors (west of the kitchen) to get back to your car.

We need interpreters who could be available during the day, Monday- Sunday, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, to help us communicate with families who are moving into our Family Shelter. The specific time would be set up with you, so you would know when to come in or call in.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Family Shelter! This could be anything form, helping with laundry to leading a fun family activity. Get in touch with a staff member to discuss how you can be a part of the team. 

Often times we have clients that just need a ride to various types of appointments. Would you be someone who is available to be on an on-call team to help our clients that are in our Discovery, New Life and Bridge programs and Family Shelter Clients. Most, if not all, of these appointments would be during office hours. You would be able to drive your personal vehicle or get cleared to use one of our Mission vehicles. Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where we are short staffed and need a helping hand caring for our clients. Caring for our community members is a 24/7 job and we need help sometimes when one or a few of our staff members falls ill. These on call positions will most likely be helping in our Adult Shelter area during the day and at night. We have a crucial role for English/Spanish bilingual interpreters to play in our Care Center (medical and dental clinic), helping our staff, clients and families communicate with each other. Volunteers can also assist with office tasks as needed.  When you respond to this opportunity, a staff member will follow up with you to arrange the details.  Thank you!

Our Program clients have two store runs per week, Thursday at 1pm (with the men) and Friday at 10:30am (with the women). If you would enjoy getting to know these wonderful people, spending some time with them and lending them a helping hand, please respond to the opportunity and we will be in contact with you. You will be transporting them in the Mission's 15 passenger van and so you will need to be comfortable driving a large vehicle. No special license is needed but you will need to do a test drive with Director of Facilities.

We are looking for people who would be willing to come help us sort and bale clothing and cardboard to be recycled or shipped to other countries. This position takes a fair amount of training and responsibility and so we need people who would be able to come consistently. 

We need volunteers who would be willing to write encouraging letters to our residents.  Our guests need to know someone is out there cheering them on and believing in them, as they do their best to walk into wholeness.  If you sign up for this opportunity, one of our staff will be in contact with you to give you more details.  Thank you so much for caring for our guests in this way!

Help show love to YUGM clients by providing them with the gift of clean laundry! We highly value cleanliness and hygiene, which means we have much clothing and bedding to launder. Would you like to be a part of the laundry team to help us maintain our cleanliness standards? It takes approximately one hour to wash and dry and load of bedding or clothing.

We are looking for spiritually mature women from our community who will invest in mentoring relationships with our program participants.  Establishing healthy community and church relationships outside of the mission is vital to the success of our program graduates, so a pivotal person who is willing to help connect and nurture those relationships with our residents both on and off our campus is crucial. We need a volunteer with love for Jesus and His children to help lead Kids Klub in the Family Shelter. Kids Klub is a fun and safe place for kids to learn and play while their parents are away. At this time, classes are every Wednesday from 6-7 pm. We hope to expand classes to Monday-Thursday as we get more volunteers. Kids Klub leaders will work with staff and other volunteers to develop a schedule that works for everyone. Leaders may lead multiple times a month or once a month. 

A volunteer in this role should have some experience teaching, developing lesson plans, and classroom management. 

Responsibilities:

Come have fun and share the love of Jesus! This position is an opportunity to assist our Lead MidKids' teacher during a one-hour class, once a week, with kids 9 - 13 years old staying in our Family Shelter. MidKids' assistants may help multiple times a month or once a month. 

At this time, classes are every Wednesday @ 6-7 pm. 

We hope to expand classes to Monday-Thursday as we get more volunteers.

This position is an opportunity to assist our Lead Kid Klub teacher during a one-hour class, twice a week, with kids 3 - 8 years old staying in our Family Shelter. Kids Klub assistants may help multiple times a month or once a month.

We hope to expand classes to Monday-Thursday as we get more volunteers.

Help us get our students ahead! Come join our team, as we offer tutoring services to the children in our care, on Monday nights from 5:30- 6:30PM. 

We rely heavily on a team of volunteer case managers who help provide support and accountability to Bridge clients as they work to achieve their personal goals. A case manager is a person who listens well, loves people, is faithful and reliable, and enjoys helping people overcome significant personal challenges through lots of work and patience. We work together with clients to answer the questions: Where are you today? Where do you want to be tomorrow? How can we help you get there?

Join our team to help our clients get from here to there!

Adults, families or groups that want to share the joy and love of Jesus will host a game night for the families in our Family Shelter.  The purpose it to provide a non-threatening fun atmosphere for families to play together.  Volunteers will be good role models for our families to observe and learn how to have fun together.  As relationships are built the volunteers will look for opportunities to pray with our families and show them the love and goodness of God.  

The Kids Kloset Attendant will sort clothes into the proper area in the clothing room.  Will keep the area straightened and clean. Will assist Shelter families to pick the most appropriate clothes for their kids.

Our clients have many holistic needs which require transportation. We need people who are available and willing to help transport clients to church, doctor appointments, and other places within Yakima. Valid Driver's License, proof of insurance, and a recent Driver's Abstract are required before driving YUGM clients. Do you have mechanical skills? We are looking for volunteers to help us vehicle maintenance. From things as simple as changing oil, or washing our cars, to more complex jobs such as rebuilding front ends. We could use help in all capacities with our vehicles.

Help us landscape and make the grounds of the Mission attractive.  We have bushes, shrubs, hedges and trees that need regular trimming and a sprinkler system that needs seasonal maintenance.  We will provide the necessary tools and training.  We also need some landscaping help at our Thrift Store on 20th and Lincoln.  Thank you!

Here at the mission we have many construction projects going. If you have experience in any of the following area, we could use you help!

1. Drywall

2. Finish Carpentry

3. Flooring

4. Concrete

5. Demolition

6. Framing

We are looking for caring, compassionate bilingual volunteers to help us interview patients during the intake process and assist in connecting them with outside resources. Every patient's needs are different, and it will be the case manager's duty to help identify needs and work with Care Center staff to connect people to community support/assistance.
