Volunteer: Court Ordered Community Service--LUNCH PREP AND SERVE: Saturday and Sunday 10am-2pm

The Yakima Union Gospel Mission serves 300-600 meals each day!

 

If you are needing to fulfill your court order community serve hours, we offer the opportunity to work in our kitchen. You will help prep and serve meals for our Adult Shelter guests, Family Shelter clients, and Recovery Services clients. Regularly scheduled meals provide a sense of security, essential nutrients, and an offer of friendship to our homeless neighbors. Meals are how we show our community that we care for their needs while offering an opportunity to enter a program that could provide inner healing and lasting solutions.

Prepping and serving breakfast doesn't require prior kitchen skills, and any necessary training is provided.

Tasks may include: 

Chopping vegetables Mixing ingredients Tidying up the kitchen Organizing supplies Plating meal trays Serving food to shelter guests Providing a hospitable environment for shelter guests Greeting guests by name when possible Presenting a smile and friendly demeanor when interacting with shelter guests.  Cleaning up after dinner Washing dishes Parking Instructions: 

As you pull up to the gate at the South entrance, push the intercom button on the call box to get ahold of a staff member. If you need help getting ahold of a staff member, call the Adult Shelter on-call phone number (509-853-4343) posted near the intercom. After the gate opens, you can pull through, park, and walk back through the pedestrian gate to get to the back kitchen entrance and use the kitchen doorbell (do not use the call box). After your shift, please exit through the double doors (west of the kitchen) to get back to your car.
