Opportunities From: Yakima Union Gospel Mission

Volunteer: Make Sandwiches at home/work/church and deliver to YUGM

The Yakima Union Gospel Mission needs your help making sandwiches for the Street Ministry/ Outreach team. We give away about 100+ sandwiches per day!

Street Ministry is about meeting people where they are geographically and in their walk of life. We can't afford to wait for people to come to us to receive a meal; we must go to them. Sandwiches are also provided to those outside the Mission who are unwilling or unable to take shelter inside. Therefore, we need volunteers who can make sandwiches in our kitchen or from the comfort of their own homes. When you submit your response to this need, a staff member will reach out to you to confirm details.

Thank you for providing the supplies to make one or both of these kinds of sandwiches:

Bread of any kind, mayonnaise, meat and cheese of any kind OR bread of any kind, peanut butter, and jelly of any kind Sandwich-size plastic bags

Sandwiches should NOT include:  tomatoes, lettuce, mustard or pickles

Please put each sandwich in an individual plastic bag for easy distribution.

We need an average of 100 sandwiches per day.

Sandwiches can be dropped off Monday - Friday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Please call our kitchen line at 509-853-4329 Ext. 276. Please get in touch with staff on the day you plan to deliver the sandwiches to let them know when you plan to arrive.

Volunteers should enter through the South entrance at 1300 N. 1st St. and find the kitchen door immediately on the right-hand side of the alleyway alongside the main building. Please ring the doorbell and a staff member will come out to provide CURBSIDE pick-up service!

Parking Instructions:

As you pull up to the gate at the South entrance, push the intercom button on the call box to get a hold of a staff member. If you need help getting a hold of a staff member, call the Adult Shelter on-call phone number (509-853-4343) posted near the intercom. After the gate opens, you can pull through, park, and walk back through the pedestrian gate to get to the back kitchen entrance and use the kitchen doorbell (do not use the call box).
