YUGM Volunteer Age Policy
Adults 18 years old and older can serve in all of our departments with an approved Community Connect account and department manager approval. Minors need to be supervised closely by their parent or guardian at all times and have a signed waiver in Community Connect or signed paper waiver at the site at which they are volunteering. Only minors 13 years and older are required to create a Community Connect account.
Specific requirements are as follows:
- KITCHEN: 13-17-year-olds with a supervising adult.
- THRIFT STORES: 12-13-year-olds with a supervising adult and each 14-17 year old without an adult need a minor waiver signed in their Community Connect account.
- FAMILY SHELTER, NEW LIFE, AND BRIDGE PROGRAM: Any age of child, with a supervising adult.
- DISCOVERY, NEW LIFE, AND BRIDGE PROGRAMS: Volunteers must be 21 years and older, with the exception of those providing childcare, who can be 18 years old.
- WAREHOUSE/RECYCLING: 13-17 years old with a supervising adult. Volunteers must be 18 years and older to use the machinery. (If a group is serving and adult supervision is present, a volunteer can be 16 and older to use the machinery.) Need to be 16 and older to be a ride-a-long volunteer in our trucks.
- SPECIAL EVENTS: minors may participate while being immediately supervised by an adult family member.
